Paid 1:1 calls
How to Charge for a Consulting Call
·
Someone asks for an hour of your time. A calendar hold, a Zoom link, and an invoice a week later leave payment optional: the advice is already gone. Collect the card before you talk, then charge at Start.
Set a rate from a revenue target
A usable hourly rate is the income the practice needs divided by the hours that can actually be billed: target income ÷ billable hours = hourly rate. Prep and notes after the call are part of that hour, so billable hours are lower than calendar hours.
These figures are examples, not researched averages or 2026 market rates.
- EXAMPLE (USD): $120,000 target ÷ 1,000 billable hours = $120/hour
- EXAMPLE (USD): $180,000 target ÷ 800 billable hours = $225/hour
- EXAMPLE (CAD): C$150,000 target ÷ 1,000 billable hours = C$150/hour
The session price is that floor times planned minutes on an hourly link, or the same number as a fixed price.
- EXAMPLE (USD): $120/hour × 30 min = $60; × 60 min = $120
- EXAMPLE (USD): $225/hour × 60 min = $225
- EXAMPLE (CAD): C$150/hour × 60 min = C$150
Fixed-price is the same number for a scoped session (30, 45, or 60 minutes) instead of a ticking clock. Hourly vs fixed-price is the choice of link type. Hosts in the US charge USD; hosts in Canada charge CAD.
Paid discovery calls
Discovery is still a consulting call. Charge it as a fixed-price diagnostic from the same floor. EXAMPLE (USD): $150 for 45 minutes. EXAMPLE (CAD): C$150 for 60 minutes. Free discovery stays a host choice, not the default.
Credit toward a later engagement is optional and happens off-platform (invoice or the next call). That is a host policy. GoCall charges only when you tap Start.
Pay at booking vs charge at Start
Pay-at-booking tools take the money when the guest picks a slot. That filters no-shows by charging people who never meet you. It also charges people you never start.
A GoCall link saves the card first and charges when you tap Start. If they never join and you never start, they are not charged. A calendar hold is still free to skip; the card is the commitment, not a no-show fee. How to handle consulting call no-shows.
Collect the card before you talk
One private link. The guest saves a card through Stripe, joins in the browser, and does not need an account. Saving the card is not a charge. Book time on the existing calendar; the link is not a scheduler. here is how it compares to Calendly plus an invoice plus Zoom.
- Agree the time on the calendar you already use.
- Send the private link. It is not a scheduler.
- The guest saves a card. That is not a charge.
- You tap Start. Hourly bills the minutes; fixed-price captures the amount. Never started is $0.
After Stripe is connected, the only work outside the call is send the link. No invoice. No follow-up.
Charge at Start
Money moves when the host taps Start.
- Hourly: billed minutes after Start. EXAMPLE (USD): $225/hour × 22 min = $82.50
- Fixed-price: the agreed amount at Start. EXAMPLE (USD): $150 captured at Start
- Never started: the guest is not charged.
Packages and retainers
Multi-session packages and monthly retainers are invoices or subscriptions. This page is for one paid call. Send a new link for the next one, or keep the larger engagement on the billing you already use.
What it costs
$0/month. 10% of the billed amount, capped at $25 per call. Stripe processing is separate. The host is merchant of record; GoCall never holds funds. See how the money flows. The Stripe pilot is open to hosts in the US and Canada.
Pilot access is limited to US and Canada practices with Stripe.
